Sara’s Transformation

Before I lost all my weight

The next step….

So I began a personal training programme at Axis.

Back in October 2010 I was tipping, and I mean tipping, the scales at 13st 5lb, dress size 16. Over time my weight had increased, little by little, day by day, month by month. I was unfit and my diet was appalling. I was unhappy with my appearance and despite all that, I kept making the familiar excuse that I was too busy to go to the gym. I couldn’t be bothered to cook and had resigned myself to the fact that I was always going to be overweight and unfit. 6 months later, here I am, nearly 4 stone lighter, 4 dress sizes smaller and an altogether fitter, healthier and happier woman. So how did I do it ? Well, that’s just it, I didn’t do it on my own.

I had been a member of Axis for a few years but had let my attendance slip. I had no motivation, had put on a lot of weight and kept making excuses not to go to the gym. Following a call from the trainers at Axis, I make the conscious decision to go in and chat to them about getting me back on track again.

During an initial consultation, we discussed my lifestyle, goals, strengths and weaknesses. I had a shoulder injury which had been troubling me for years and my knee joints were problematic. We analysed my health and fitness, reviewed my diet and talked about my commitment to improving my diet, fitness and general well being. From here, it didn’t take me long to figure out that to make these positive changes to my life and ensure I wasn’t going to aggravate my injury, I was going to need some expert help and most importantly encouragement and motivation. Personal training was the obvious solution. A unique training program was developed just for me, with a dedicated personal trainer who would be there for me on a one to one basis every step of the way.

Training at Axis Fitness

I began with two personal training sessions a week and for good measure, a boxercise session. It was a shock to my system to say the least ! But the encouragement was relentless. “You’re more than half way now”, “well done, only 2 minutes to go”, “you’re doing really well”, “you can do it” …. trust me if I’d been training on my own I would have packed up as soon as I broke a sweat. My personal training also included a nutritional analysis. I kept a food diary so my trainer could evaluate my diet and calorie intake. I was eating all the wrong things, not eating regularly and not drinking enough water. My calorie intake was set at 1200 per day, which would give me a healthy weight loss per week. I was advised on what I should and shouldn’t be eating and to keep a food diary in which I was to record everything I ate. As part of the personal training program, my file was updated each week with my weight, BMI, body fat and body measurements. Trust me, the scales and the tape measure never lie. I was astounded at how quickly I began to lose weight and how much my fitness was improving. With regular
appointments, I was building up a commitment to my training and was beginning to see some really positive results. Every few weeks the programs were modified and adapted so they were more challenging. I was even doing a bit of road / treadmill running outside of my training sessions, something I would never have thought I could do. My shoulder injury was no longer troubling me which was a huge relief.

Look at me now……….

With 6 months of personal training, (and a lot of hard work !) I am 4st lighter and 4 dress sizes smaller. My personal training sessions have moved on and adapted. The focus has moved from weight loss to conditioning and toning. My boxercise is advancing to kick boxing and martial arts and my cardio workouts are more intensive.

My progress has been consistent but you have to be committed and focused. Every week I have lost weight, the inches have fallen away and I’m careful about what I eat. It’s fair to say you cannot expect results without putting in the effort but the end result is worth it. It’s a cliché, I know, but this has changed my life!

Could I have done this without my Axis trainers ? No way. I know that for sure. The support and motivation from the team at Axis has been outstanding. The gym is friendly and well equipped and the level of service, professionalism and knowledge from the team is first class. I have nothing but praise for them and have no hesitation in making a personal recommendation for their personal training services.
