COVID -19 FAQ
All you need to know about how we are keeping you safe
If you need a bit more information on how we are protecting our staff and members from COVID-19, check out our FAQ’s
A COVID-SECURE facility
What are you doing about social distancing ?
Social distancing reduces the risk of transmission between people. For this reason we have limited the number of members allowed in the gym at any one time so you can “BE SMART STAY APART”.
Axis Fitness gym members have their own dedicated gym entrance now which is clearly signposted.
There are notices and signs throughout the gym asking you to keep a safe distance from other gym users. Social distancing is a social responsibility so we ask you to respect other people’s space and be considerate. Be Smart, Stay Apart
Where we can, we have de-commissioned some equipment so that we can ensure a safe distance. We have marked a one way system which, where possible we would ask you to follow, so you are not crossing face to face with another gym user.
We will encourage social distancing at all times and ask you to do the same. Please do not congregate in groups whilst in the gym or around entrances / exits. Our COVID CODE is displayed throughout the gym , in the locker rooms and at entrances.
Remember that Government guidance changes frequently so we will adapt as this changes.
What are you doing about cleaning ?
The gym, equipment and lockers rooms have had a full deep clean and sanitise prior to opening. Whilst we do clean the gym often throughout the day already, we are increasing the frequency of this and paying particular attention to touch points like handles and switches.
All members are asked to do their bit and clean their kit after use. Pick up a cleaning cloth when you enter the gym and using the antibacterial spray cleaner, wipe down all the surfaces you touch after each exercise. Drop the cloth in the laundry basket as you leave so they can be taken away for a thorough wash at 60 degrees.
Cleaning is an important part of controlling COVID-19 and we are taking all steps we can to keep the gym clean to minimise risk to both you and us. Our staff will be wearing gloves and face masks when they perform their cleaning duties.
The front and rear doors to the gym will be open to allow circulation of fresh air throughout the gym.
Our air conditioning system circulates fresh air.
Will I have to sanitise my hands ?
Yes. We have a hand sanitiser station located as soon as you enter the gym which you must use. You will not be allowed to pass through the turnstile and enter the gym until you have sanitised your hands. There are more hand sanitiser stations throughout the gym for you to use during your gym visit.
Hand hygiene is very important to control the spread of COVID-19 and you should try to not touch your face at all.
If you must cough or sneeze, do so into the crook of your arm or use a tissue and throw it away immediately – then wash your hands.
Will you take my temperature and will I need to wear a face mask / face covering ?
The Government guidance does not require us to take your temperature before you use the gym.
You are required to wear a face mask / covering upon entering the Goals clubhouse. Once you enter the gym however, you do not need to wear a face mask / face covering. You can of course, wear one if you wish. Remember, your face mask must cover your nose and mouth for it to be effective !
Our staff will wear a face mask when they are working on the gym floor or taking visitors or clients around the gym.
Please try to stay behind the perspex screen at the reception desk.
I am not feeling 100% but I really want to use the gym, will it be OK for me to train ?
If you feel unwell in any way you should not be coming to the gym, you will be spreading your germs and your workout will not be productive.
If you display any of the following systems of COVID-19 you must not, under any circumstance, come into the gym.
You DO NOT ENTER OR USE THE GYM if you experience ANY the following, any time over any 14 day period
– a new and continuous unexplained cough that you cannot attribute to any other health condition
– a new shortness of breath that you cannot attribute to any other health condition
– a new sore throat that you cannot attribute to any other health condition
– a new loss of taste and / or smell that you cannot attribute to any other health condition
– a temperature over 37.8 degrees c or a sense of having a fever that you cannot attribute to any other health condition
– had close contact with anyone who is or was sick with confirmed or suspected COVID-19 (close contact is defined as within 6 feet for more than 10 consecutive minutes
Can I just turn up at the gym to train or do I need to book a session ?
In order to manage occupancy levels, you need to book your gym time.
The Government requires us to allow gym members the ability to keep a safe distance from each other. The only way we can do that is to make sure the gym is not over-crowded.
The booking system ensures every member has the opportunity to book a 1 hours gym session. During quiet times, it may be possible to extend your visit beyond the 1 hour session, please speak to a member of staff if you wish to stay beyond your allotted time.
Gym time bookings are made through our website.
Gym sessions last 1 hour and you can book one everyday if you like. You cannot book more than one in a single day. Gym sessions can be booked 5 days in advance. Please keep your workout to the 1 hour so that we can allow the next members in promptly.
We will keep this under review as per the Government guidance. We have taken a very cautious approach to numbers in the first instance but do expect this to be reviewed upwards shortly.
Our log of member visits will aid the NHS Test & Trace program
Can I cancel a gym session ?
Yes, you can cancel your session. Login to the booking system, find the class you have booked and choose cancel. Please try to cancel any unwanted session so that other members can use them.
I want to use the gym for longer than the allotted 1 hour. Is this possible ?
When the gym is quiet, at off-peak times it may be possible to stay a short while longer if we are not at capacity, but you will need to ask the permission of the member of staff on duty at that time.
During peak times, it will not be possible to extend your time as other members are waiting to come into the gym for their booked session.
Please limit your work-out to 1 hour and be fair to the rest of the gym members who have a session booked straight after you.
Can I use lockers and showers ?
Lockers are available to use but you will not be able to use the showering facilities until further notice.
In order to keep all personal belongings out of the gym, we will ask to leave all coats, bags, keys etc in a locker. You will need a padlock for the locker, which you can purchase in the gym.
Please come to the gym already dressed for your workout.
Can I bring my gym towel into the gym ?
Since the outbreak of COVID-19, we request that you do not bring your own towel to wipe down machines. As you enter the gym you will pick up a cleaning cloth, using the antibacterial spray cleaner located throughout the gym at the cleaning stations, wipe down all the areas you touch after each exercise.
Can I still pay with cash ?
Since the outbreak of COVID-19, we would ask you to pay using card / contactless so we do not have to handle cash.
We have a full range of chilled sports drinks, protein drinks and still water as well as protein tubs and bars on sale in the gym.
Our proteins will not be on display to avoid transmission risks but if you do require anything, just ask
I heard that you cannot play music. Is that right ?
Music has to be kept to a volume that means gym members do not need to unduly raise their voices to each other, so we will be keeping the music at a low volume. If you miss the pump of the music in the gym, bring your own music and headphones !
Is there any equipment that I cannot use ?
Because we have kept our occupancy levels low, we are able to offer you all the equipment you are used to using. We know that even if we are at capacity, there would still be plenty of kit to choose from and you can still Be Smart, Stay Apart
The boxing bags can be used but YOU MUST BRING YOUR OWN BOXING GLOVES or MITS
We have added additional functional kit in the outside terrace, so if you fancy a workout outdoors, you can.
(There are 3 treadmills de-commissioned so you have a safe distance between each piece).
Are you still taking new members, Free Trials and Day Passes ?
We will not be allowing any Day Passes for the foreseeable future.
We are offering Free Trials and these are arranged through our website. We capture your data to use as part of the NHS Test & Trace.
You can book a free trial here : https://www.axisfitness.co.uk/memberships/free-try-us-day/
We are welcoming any new members and they can join on-line either through our website or using the joining link on tablet in the gym reception.
Will the Instructors still be able to help me ?
Yes. So long as we can maintain a safe distance, our Instructors are always available to help.
If you’d rather “self-help”, our strength training machines have a QR code which links to a short video showing you how to set up and use all the machines.
How do I enter the gym ?
We have a turnstile entry system which you use to access the gym floor, after passing through the hand sanitising station.
After sanitising your hands, simply place your finger on the scanner, wait for the entry light to turn green then come on through the turnstile. On leaving the gym floor, press the exit button then pass through the hand sanitising station once again before you exit the gym
When will you be re-opening the Sports Massage clinic ?
The Sports Massage Clinic will re-open on Monday 24 August. For your safety, our therapists will be observing all Government guidance.
